Easy Does It

“God never gives you more than you can handle.” How many times have we heard that line. Sounds good, but it isn’t true. God never said that and it’s not in the Bible. What the Bible does say in 1 Corinthians 10:13 — “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can bear it.”

Many times I am tempted to procrastinate or just flat out not do something because I’m tired or I don’t feel good. I strongly dislike that about myself because it never fails that when I DO the things (after the coffee) I always feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Part of it lies in my trait of perfectionism – -I don’t want to start a job if I cannot complete it in it’s entirety. (Which, by the way, is an unrealistic mindset for some chores.)

Today, I felt pretty good when I awoke. No nausea, no headache, no vertigo. I felt rather well rested considering I had bad dreams. I was seeing double, but I’m learning to live with that. If I close the one affected eye, I can see just fine until I start getting tired — then all bets are off.

I had chores to do today – several stores to which I needed to go. A delivery of a kiddie pool to a friend for her ducks was planned as well. I had bought this pool for the dogs last summer. The pittie got into it once and then never again. The shepherd/heeler just wanted to drink the water out of it. The dogs have moved out and the pool was stashed under the porch. Just the other day, I saw it and wondered what I would do with it. I didn’t want to put it out for the trash, but I didn’t know anyone with wee kiddos. And then . . . . Nina had a duck issue. Problem solved for both of us. (I like happy endings.)

I felt so good this morning that before it got too toasty, I stepped out with my handy dandy saw and started cutting down saplings and weeds that had popped up in the aftermath of our torrential downpours. As the sun started it’s ascent, I moved over to the treeline where the shade was beckoning, and cleared out a space there. All in all, I spent an hour outside this morning. Did I want to keep going? Absolutely! However, I had the wherewithal to realize that while I felt fairly good, I would not continue to feel fairly good were I to continue working in the heat. During the high heat of the day, I did my traveling errands. After taking a short nap, as the sun started to set, I spent another hour outside mowing the front lawn. Did I want to get the entire yard done today? Absolutely! Was it going to happen with temperatures in the 90’s? Absolutely NOT!

Life was not meant to be easy, I don’t believe. It is meant to be lived, fully and completely with laughter and all the other emotions known to man. An easy life would not allow us to grow and find our strength or courage. Nothing about life is easy — there are good days and bad days. The goal is to embrace each day with it’s challenges and make the most of it.
